On the last day of school, Miss Williams stands with
a few of her students (two of the students, Ricky
and Mark, are part of this year's graduating class).
Many young children
and teenagers imagine
their futures, and what
great things God will
accomplish in their
lives. Denise Williams
had always dreamed
of working with young
people from the inner-
city. She wanted to
reach out to those
stricken with poverty,
and instill in them a
desire to learn and
succeed.
Denise Williams was
bom on February 3,
1968, in Canton, Ohio.
She was saved as a
teenager after attend-
ing Youth Conference
at First Baptist Church.
Upon graduation from
Hyles- Anderson
College, Denise
William's childhood
dream was about to
become a reality. She
was asked to become
the sixth-grade teacher
at City Baptist Schools, a
school for the inner-city
young people from
Chicago. Since 1991, Miss
Williams has devoted her
life to making a difference
in the lives of scores of
young people.
When asked what she
enjoys most about
teaching at City Baptist;
Miss Williams replied,
"The students are the best
part. Sometimes, I just
look at my classroom full
of students, and I am
overwhelmed that I
on
get to be a teacher in
this great ministry.
Each day I look
forward to teaching
because of the wonder
ful students we have.
Miss Williams has a
talent for making each
student that sits in her
classroom feel
uniquely loved. Each
student that leaves her
classroom receives
letters, candy, and
special treats from
their former teacher
until the day he
graduates from City
Baptist. One may
never see the many
lives changed by the
impeccable example of
Miss Williams; but one
thing is sure, that Miss
Denise Williams is
living proof that to
teach truly is to touch
a life forever.

very first sixth-grade class. Many of her
first-year students are attending

involved in First Baptist Church.

As the graduating class of 2002 sat in the
Adams Chapel, the tears were already stream-
ing down many a cheek. The graduates sang
together as they waited for their preacher, Dr.
Schaap and principal, Mr. Douglass to shed
some light on what seemed to be a dreary day.
Unique to this graduating class is the fact that
1 5 of the 21 graduating seniors have attended
City Baptist together since the sixth grade. For
many seniors across the country, graduation is
a day of excitement to finally be finished with all
of the headaches of high school. Although our
seniors were excited about what they had
accomplished, they expressed deep sadness
as they parted with a school, a staff, and friends
that they had grown to love so dearly. It was
also a very emotional day in the lives of the
staff and faculty as they said final goodbyes to
the lives which they have influenced for many
years. The staff realized that when the doors
of City Baptist swing open next fall, no longer
will the graduates pass through them; no longer
will the classrooms be filled with their laughter,
no longer will theirsmiles brighten the buses on
a cold, dreary morning.
^Although the class of 2002 will be greatly
missed, all those who have played a part in
molding the lives of these young people
anticipate watching them put into practice what
they have been taught, trained, and instructed
to do. Graduates, many people have invested
in your life to make this special day possible.
